Let me begin by saying how much I loved Icebreaker by Hannah Grace and how absolutely thrilled I was to hear that she had written a Maple Hills sequel! I will admit, I was hoping we would have Henry’s story-but I am patient and believe Maple Hills #3 will be featuring him! However, I was happy to hear more about Russ and watch him have his own love story in Wildfire.
At an end of the school year party, Russ Callaghan, member of the Maple Hills hockey team, and Aurora Roberts have a one-night stand where Aurora leaves before she can be told to go, since that is how it usually works, and Russ loses the opportunity to even ask her out due to his shyness. However, imagine their surprise when they both find themselves as camp counsellors for the summer at a sleep-away camp only a couple nights after their first meeting! Both have accepted the job hoping to escape their real life and the drama that comes with it, and Aurora has fond memories of being a camper herself. So what if the camp has a “no staff romance” rule, it’s not like anything is going to happen anyway, right? Russ needs this job and, while Aurora is not usually one to follow the rules, she can respect that Russ is. But, as the book blurb states, “did their one night stand start a fire they can’t put out”?
Overall, I really enjoyed this book but there was something missing for me versus how much I loved Icebreaker. While I really did like Russ and Aurora, there was something about this duo that didn’t have me rooting as much as I did for Stassi and Nate, I really wish I could explain why as the characters were both awesome! Also, the length of this book I felt was a bit long for the story line itself, but that is just being nit-picky, I think. I really enjoyed how both characters were dealing with serious issues as I always find that to be more relatable in a romance novel. Overall, I would highly recommend reading this book as it was very enjoyable! You could start with this book if you wanted, but I strongly recommend reading Icebreaker first!
