Julia and Sienna Larkin are sisters-in-law, connected by Julia’s husband and Sienna’s brother, Jason. More than that, the two of them are devoted best friends and business partners, believing that theirs is a uniquely unbreakable bond.
Sienna believes her brother can do no wrong while Julia knows he’s not perfect but has created a great life and family with him. But when local gossip follows the gruesome story of Jason’s boss being brutally murdered, the two friends question everything and each other when Jason turns out to be a main suspect. After suffering from a car accident and put in a medically-induced coma, Jason cannot clear his name so the two friends try to do it for him… and find some incredible and complicated web of secrets.
While I enjoyed Megan Collins writing, the story line was missing something for me. I was waiting for a plot twist that didn’t really come and I sensed what was happening before it actually did. Julia and Sienna both have character flaws – Julia with holding things back and Sienna almost obsessively trying to prove Jason’s innocence with her impulsive and quick temper. I found myself annoyed with the both of them and Jason too for his savior complex. Their dysfunctional relationship should have been a great backbone for a better storyline. The story starts off well at first, almost like a slow-burning read anticipating each and every derailment but somehow falls a little flat, maybe because of the predictive mystery element.
