Imagine if there was a murder club, a group who would provide vengeance for those who cannot get justice through normal means. They’ll send someone to kill the person who is causing problems in your life, but you have to do the same for someone else. You help someone and someone helps you. Simple like that.
My advice is to make sure you have plenty of free time before starting this book. You will get hooked and won’t be able to put the book down. This book is the opposite of boring and predictable and I enjoyed every page of it.
The protagonist Jazz is by far one of my favorite characters ever. She’s a strong young woman who has been through a lot in life. Jazz ran away from her foster mom, Carol, a crazy and extremely religious woman. But Jazz wasn’t able to bring her 13-year-old brother Joaquin with since her past is troubled and child services wouldn’t allow her to raise him.
Things get wild when Carol forbids Jazz to see her brother and stops giving Joaquim his diabetes shots. Carol thinks only Jesus is the cure for him. Jazz is willing to do anything to have her brother with her, but she knows she can’t depend on child services.
Meanwhile, there is a mysterious serial killer terrifying the city. He is killing random people by injecting a lethal liquid in their lower body. He also leaves a playing card at each crime scene.
One day, Jazz receives a call from someone in the kill club. He guarantees he’ll get rid of Carol and she could finally be with Joaquin. All she has to do is kill someone else.
Jazz accepts, desperate to be with her brother; but of course it’s not so easy. She is assigned to kill someone that she knows is a bad person but she might be found guilty of the crime.
There is a plot twist that makes the story even better and the last chapters make it impossible to put the book down!
