This was an amazing book! I give it 4.5/5 stars
The Historian is a page-turning novel that sweeps the reader away into a unique story about World War Two. It opens up the reader to a different part of history that they may not have considered before.
Based on true events, Ekback illustrates the horrors that people faced, in Sweden. While Sweden was a neutral country during World War II, the Historians proves that neutral does not mean untouched. Each chapter ends in a cliff-hanger, which makes this novel impossible to put down.
Ekback’s true skill is showcased in her ability to write the most vivid and gruesome scenes that are etched into the reader’s mind. Be sure to pay attention, as even the smallest details are skillfully weaved into the plot. This does mean that the book can get a bit confusing if you skim a paragraph or miss a sentence. That is difficult to do, as Ekback is a writer that hooks you in with each word.
This book is necessary to read, as it is important to remember those that have fought for the freedom we take for granted, but this book is not for anyone who is hoping for a light read. I highly recommend this story to anyone and everyone interested in historical fiction or mystery. Ready yourself for an educational and fascinating read, because Ekback delivers both in the novel, The Historian.
