Shay has been down on her luck and she is sure this new job is going to save her. A talented and ambitious attorney who got a little ahead of herself on the job track and crashed, she is determined to do whatever it takes to make this opportunity successful and she may have found a way to make that happen. Lucy is already a success in the company, but her stress and anxiety levels have hit the roof. She is ready for a change and tells her husband in no uncertain terms that she can’t take it anymore.
On a Sunday evening, these two women, working late, find themselves on the same elevator when the power goes off. When the power comes back on, only one of them is still alive. The survivor, Shay, says it was suicide, the police aren’t so sure, management doesn’t think it’s possible, and from here, things get really interesting.
As the story and characters develop, the reader is taken on a wild ride, learning bit by bit the whys and whens of the situation, never really sure which twist is the last. Using diverse characters and intricate situations, Bonnie Kistler pulls in the many harsh realities of the fashion manufacturing world. With a close look at corporate manipulation and corruption, she creates a world of questionable people with questionable motives. Add to that a narrative drive that keeps the pages turning and a thriller atmosphere that keeps the reader guessing, this novel never slows down and never gives up its secrets.
