I discovered the author Lisa Unger a few years ago and instantly loved her writing style, she writes a lot of thrillers which is my go to genre.
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is twisty and filled with turn after turn. I was hooked right away and woke up in the middle of the night just to read more.
Hannah is one of the main characters along with her brother Mickey (Mako). Mako is married to Liza and Hannah is married to Bruce. Liza is a yogi, patient and kind. Mako is the opposite, he runs a video gaming company and is shadowed by sexual harassment allegations, money issues, and infidelity claims, he can be impatient and rude. Hannah is always supportive of her brother and sees the best in him. Bruce is working with Mako and tends to work into the wee hours of the morning, he’s incredibly secretive about his work and what he’s doing which causes suspicions from Hannah.
At first I was trying to figure out if everyone is hiding something terrible!
At Christmas time, there is a bunch of mysterious DNA kits left under the tree and no one knows where they came from. The story continues to unfold and we meet Henry, his mother Alice was murdered and it hasn’t been solved. Henry also takes one of the DNA tests and with the help of a detective (who has always looked out for him) Henry uncovers a mysterious background he wasn’t expecting. I really enjoyed Henry’s storyline, I felt his pain and his indecisiveness all while hoping he came out on the other side of everything.
I don’t want to give away everything but this book pulled me in and I couldn’t stop reading it.
At some points the amount of characters and back and forth got confusing but that could have been me reading at 2am.
Overall I really liked this book and I liked how it ended. Unger wrapped up all the characters and the storylines beautifully.
If you like twisty, thrillers give this one a try!
Happy reading everyone!
