Regretting You is another heart wrenching story for all those CoHo fans out there that know all about her ability to give you all the feels.
Turns out, Hoover, who claims has difficulty sticking to one genre, actually breaks all kinds of writing moulds with this one. Bookstores have described her book as appropriate for all ages. That explains why I couldn’t make up my mind if it was YA or Adult Fiction. Apparently, it’s both!
The narrator flips back and forth between a teenager and her mother, making for two insightful perspectives of the complexities of a mother-daughter relationship despite a dire effort to connect.
Could you love somebody that makes you give up your personal dreams and desires so that you could dedicate your life to them?
On the surface, the answer is a simple – heck no! But, Hoover demonstrates that often we do make those sacrifices for our children. Though they don’t directly ask us to give anything up for them, we are mindful of the impact our decisions make on them; therefore, we steer our lives in ways that will give them less of a blow.
If you’re a parent who sometimes feels like you regret missed opportunities for the betterment of your children (and let’s face it, that’s the majority of us) or if you’re a young adult who feels like you can’t understand why your parent won’t get off your case (and let’s face it, that’s all of you), this book is definitely for you.
