This was THE perfect book to start reading the night of the Grammys (I had to read on the commercial breaks of course!) as popstar Ella Simone and the MLB’s bad-boy Miles Westbrook go from fellow award announcers to almost fake dating after an encounter with her soon to be EX husband.
A constant simmering heat lingers between each conversation and moment these two have together, weaving shared secrets and stories of their pasts with a look toward a future, together. Even while their celebrity status makes this story not a reality for most of us readers, Myah Ariel creates characters that are so raw and real it’s easy to fall for them, to become invested in this couple’s dreams and emotions as we cheer for them to realize their fake-dating is the real thing.
Ella’s character was surrounded by an amazing glam team that really added to the story, I felt like she deserved their support after so many years of putting up with her ex and everything he did to her, and stood in the way of. I love that she was independent and determined to move towards her future, in a way that she wanted to, but still allowed Miles into her heart.
Using voice memos as a medium to grow the relationship when the two were a part was such a unique way to connect them and keep up the pacing, I thought it was so well done. Somehow it managed to make the book a quick read while also having a lot of depth in the relationship that made their transition from fake-dating to real couple realistic.
Ella’s character will resonate with anyone who’s ever fallen in love and had to move on and find love again, it’s what stuck out most to me in this book as she found the power to rediscover herself and find LOVE.
Miles is everything she needs, underneath the reputation the media has pinned on him is a tender gentleman who knows how to love on our leading lady.
“Maybe this is what happens to a heart after it breaks-with time and healing, it becomes reinforced along the cracks. And when it’s right to love again, that heart’s a stronger muscle for having learned what it should take. What it can give.”
SWOON, right?! I can’t get enought of Myah’s writing style, and after reading and loving her debut romance, When I Think of You, she managed to make me love this book even more, I cannot wait to read whatever she writes next!
