Mutual Discord, Liana De la Rosa (Review by Stephanie Crane)

Mutual Discord was a fun, quick romance with a lot more depth than I expected. Sofia loses her job after a male coworker takes credit for her work, which leads her to make a frustrated TikTok rant about the inequalities women have faced throughout history. When the video goes viral, she turns it into a series highlighting women whose accomplishments were overlooked or credited to men. I really enjoyed this part of the story and the way it brought in both gender and racial inequalities.

Things get complicated when Sofia connects with a TikTok commenter named “A.” They instantly click, only for Sofia to discover that A is actually Alex, her best friend Caitlin’s date. The chemistry between Sofia and Alex was strong, and I liked watching their feelings develop while they both knew how wrong the situation could be. I especially enjoyed how Alex became more involved with Sofia and her family, sometimes even more than with Caitlin.

My biggest complaint is that I would have loved to hear more from Alex’s point of view. I think seeing his thoughts and feelings throughout everything would have added another layer to the story.

Overall, though, Mutual Discord was a sweet, messy romance with great cultural representation, meaningful themes, and a happy ending. I’d definitely recommend it for a quick, emotional read!
