Want to discuss great books with like-minded friends in Mill Bay?
The concept is simple. We’re a global book club for likeminded women to discuss great books! All members of the book club read the same book over the same period; members then meet up in their respective cities at the end of each month to discuss the book and exchange views.
Grab your seat! What we are reading in June: All The Lonely People by Mike Gayle
If you loved A Man Called Ove, then prepare to be delighted as Jamaican immigrant Hubert rediscovers the world he’d turned his back on, in a novel that is “warm, funny, and gives you all the feels” (Good Housekeeping).
In weekly phone calls to his daughter in Australia, widower Hubert Birdpaints a picture of the perfect retirement, packed with fun, friendship, and fulfillment. But it’s a lie. In reality, Hubert’s days are all the same, dragging on without him seeing a single soul.
Until he receives some good news — good news that in one way turns out to be the worst news ever, news that will force him out again, into a world he has long since turned his back on. The news that his daughter is coming for a visit.
Now Hubert faces a seemingly impossible task: to make his real life resemble his fake life before the truth comes out.
Along the way Hubert stumbles across a second chance at love, renews a cherished friendship, and finds himself roped into an audacious community scheme that seeks to end loneliness once and for all . . .
Life is certainly beginning to happen to Hubert Bird. But with the origin of his earlier isolation always lurking in the shadows, will he ever get to live the life he’s pretended to have for so long?

Hi there. I’m new to town and would love to attend this book club. I hope it’s ok for new members to attend at any time!
Hi Claire,
Would love to have you join us! We are small and growing. Sorry for the delay in responding but it seems there were a couple of website issues and I just saw this. Our Dec meeting is on the 20th (unless the weather doesn’t cooperate – I’ll post on this site) so please come and meet us even if you haven’t read the book. Jan meeting is on the 31st.
Dec meeting moved to the 27th, same place same time, due to all the snow ❄️
I just signed up! See you on the 28th!
Hi all, our weather has been interesting this year! Due to snow and road conditions I’m cancelling the meeting for tonight. Stay tuned for the new date (should be next week). If you have a membership don’t forget that you can meet the author at 7pm EST/4 pm PST today – go to the main page of The Gloss and scroll down to see the information and register. Stay warm! Jodi
I’m interested in checking this out. How does it work? Do I just show up on May 30? I’m kind of a slow reader so I may not be done the book 😉
Hello! If you click on an event above you can RSVP for it! No problem if you don’t finish the book.
Would love to have you join us even if you haven’t finished the book! As we meet at The Mill most of us grab supper along with tea, water or a glass of wine and chat about the book 📖 and a little about life!
