Okay, so I really liked The Love Hypothesis and was very excited when I heard it would be a series with different characters as the focus of each story. When the second installment, Love on the Brain, came out, I was shocked that I loved it even more than The Love Hypothesis, which was saying something. So, when I got the opportunity to review, this third in the series, Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood, I immediately took it and WOW am I glad I did because this book is by far my absolute FAVORITE of the series. They just keep getting better and better!!
Elsie Hannaway has found a way to work on her massive student loan debt until she can finally get tenure and have some stability. During the day, she works as an adjunct professor teaching anything and everything they offer, no matter how miserable she is and how rude some of these student emails have gotten. After hours, she works as a “fake girlfriend” to those who need her, and the natural people pleaser she is, she is quite good at adapting to the version of herself her clients want. When both worlds collide in the form of her client’s brother, Jack Smith, being on the MIT hiring committee, not to mention the same brother who hates her guts for some reason, Elsie knows she has a long road to get this position. Did she mention this is also the person who single handedly ruined her mentor’s career and drew mockery to her own field of study? But when she realizes he allows her to be completely herself, without having to be the “best version” of her, she realizes that hatred may not be the only emotion she is feeling.
I did not want this book to end and these characters were incredible! I loved the romance aspect, obviously lol, but also the deeper issues and concerns that these characters had to work through on their journeys. I have been on a real romance novel streak lately, but this one really stood above most in terms of the content and character development. I HIGHLY recommend reading this novel, even if you have not yet read the first two-but really, what are you waiting for?! This book was fantastic!
