Addie Macrae is a travel consultant who enjoys helping struggling, family-run touring companies get back on track and make the most of their businesses. Logan Sutherland is her newest and most reluctant client who thinks he runs his Scottish Highlands touring company just fine on his own. He creates meaningful connections between visitors and the Scottish land he loves so much, and that’s more important to him than bringing visitors to over-hyped tourist spots. Chaos ensues as Addie and Logan try to win over each other with their business plans, but they might win over each other, too, in the process.
I loved this book. It’s escapism romance at its finest and delves into much deeper topics than one might expect from a romance novel, like found family and confronting the things that scare you. Addie loves her life on the road because it keeps her from getting close to anyone. She lost her mom at a young age and has been running from the idea of family ever since. Logan, on the other hand, is all about family and connecting with your roots. Given their different outlooks, Addie and Logan butt heads frequently but eventually come to see the value in the other’s perspective in a way that is authentic and deeply rewarding.
I also liked how the book discussed grief and leaned into what happens when someone falls in love with a place and a version of themselves they never believed was possible. It also has witty banter and a ton of local charm that will have you fantasizing about your next trip to the Scottish Highlands.
Overall, Kilt Trip is a delightful read, and though it’ll be a book I’ll read again, I’m a little jealous of the person who’s about to read this heartwarming story for the first time.
