Rating: 4/5It’s a Good Day to Change the World is a great reminder that we can enact change by assembling resources, making a plan, and building a community with like-minded people. This coffee table-like book is filled with beautiful illustrations and thought-provoking interviews with Ijeoma Oluo, Rebecca Traister, Lily Tomlin, and many more forward-thinking women. They provide useful advice on how to learn new skills, make time for what’s important, and change the world for the better.I like that the interviewees in this book are women from all walks of life. Every interviewee has taken a different path. Some are writers, actors, Olympic athletes, politicians, or activists who are all united in the goal of creating a better world. Every interviewee has a slightly different idea of what a “better world” looks like, too. They either put the emphasis on social equity, climate change, political activism, or something else entirely, but that just means there’s something in here for everyone. No matter what your story is, you’ll be able to relate to at least one of these women in one way or another. The only thing I wished to see in this book was more in-depth interviews. I know the book is supposed to be uplifting without burning you out, but I personally wanted to read more about the grit and struggle these women faced to get to where they are now. I think it would’ve helped me appreciate their end results if I knew more about their journeys of trial, error, and hardship. However, the introductions offer good snip-its of their work and backstory so you still get a general sense of why they care about the issues at hand.Overall, this book is a very digestible read with a lot of practical advice on how to change the world. A great gift for the friend who wants to do more, but may not know how to get started. Start with this book.
