We’ll be the first to tell you that our Girly Book Club hosts are the backbone of our entire community. All around the world, they organize each monthly book club meeting, warmly welcome members into our community, facilitate great discussion surrounding our book of the month, and are all-around rockstars!
We want to celebrate our hosts and give you the opportunity to shine a light on your chapter host. With that, we’re excited to announce our first ever GBC Host of the Month, Samantha from New York City!
We asked Samantha to share with us some of her favorites.
GBC: Tell us a bit about your love of books/reading?
Samantha: I love reading for all of the ways it can transport you into another experience. Whether that’s another time, place or feeling, there is nothing quite like reading someone else’s words and seeing the world through their eyes. Fact or fiction, when a book is written truly well, reading is the fastest path to empathy.
GBC: Best book you’ve read recently?
Samantha: This winter, I read Foe by Iain Reid. It’s a short read, but somehow completely captivating and surprising with very little actually happening.
GBC: What is one movie, TV series, or podcast that you’re loving right now?
Samantha: I’m loving the podcast Good Ancestor hosted by Layla Saad right now. All of her guests are incredibly powerful women and their honesty is humbling, inspiring and empowering.
GBC: Name your favourite bookshop in the world.
Samantha: This is a tough one, but I have to say McNally Jackson in SoHo, New York. Inside the tiny bookstore, there is also a magical little café with books hanging from the ceiling and wallpaper made of of book pages. It’s just magical.
