We’ll be the first to tell you that our Girly Book Club hosts are the backbone of our entire community. All around the world, they organize each monthly book club meeting, warmly welcome members into our community, facilitate great discussion surrounding our book of the month, and are all-around rockstars!
We want to celebrate our hosts and give you the opportunity to shine a light on your chapter host. With that, we’re excited to announce our second ever GBC Host of the Month, Emily from Cincinnati.
Here are some of the wonderful comments from her community and why we choose Emily as our winner.
“Emily always makes sure everyone feels comfortable and welcomed at book club and at outside social meet-ups. She is so well organized and has really been a wonderful connection. Now that our book club has gotten bigger, Emily does a good job of being present with both groups and making sure we all mix and mingle among one another. We are so lucky to have Emily as our host!”

“I’m fairly new but I will just add that Emily works really hard to engage members and provide multiple opportunities for connection and social activity. She’s a wonderful host.”
We asked Emily to share with us some of her favorites.
GBC: Tell us a bit about your love of books/reading?
Emily: I think my love of reading is hereditary, both of my grandmothers love to read and my mom is a huge reader. When I was younger I would want to go to Barnes and Noble to pick out a new book as a reward for something like good grades rather than Toys R Us. I just love that reading can transport you anywhere, but you still use your imagination to bring the author’s words to life. I enjoy the escapist aspect of it, I can get so engrossed in a good book I feel like I have to physically bring myself back to the present.
GBC: Best book you’ve read recently?
Emily: One of my favorite books of the year so far is Fruit of the Drunken Tree by Ingrid Rojas Contreras. It focuses on two young girls growing up in Pablo Escobar’s Colombia, one an upper-middle-class girl and the other her family’s maid. They soon form a friendship that will change both of their lives. It was an excellent read that made me sit and think long after I closed the book.
GBC: What is one movie, TV series, or podcast that you’re loving right now?
Emily: I’ve been totally binging a BBC series on Netflix called Versailles. A historical drama about Louis XIV and his court, the costumes and sets are incredible and the story is addictive!
GBC: Name your favourite bookshop in the world.
Emily: Last year I got to visit the Acqua Alta Bookshop in Venice, and it was gorgeous! We were wandering around the streets and happened to stumble upon it and it’s every bit as magical as pictures make it seem. One of the highlights of our trip!
