Jaw-dropping, crazy plot twists and very unpredictable. Aimee Molloy did a great job playing with the reader’s mind. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, the author laughed in my face and threw me in a completely different direction.
I usually don’t like to compare books but I would say this book is a mix of Verity with Misery. It has a tense atmosphere throughout the story and it’s unputdownable once you get into it.
It’s hard to talk about this book without accidentally spoiling it. This is the kind of book that is good to read without knowing anything beforehand.
Sam Statler and Annie Potter got married fifteen weeks ago – yes, they count their marriage in weeks and celebrate weekly – and they have a very peculiar quirk. They like to pretend they’re strangers meeting for the first time. It’s their shared fantasy to keep the spark going.
Sam is a therapist and his office is on the first floor of a mansion in Chestnut Hill – a small town in New York. He has some interesting patients. His new patient – a French woman named Charlie – shows up and after a couple sections with Sam, his life will change forever. He accepts her invitation for a drink and he leaves the house a few minutes before a dangerous storm starts. Sam goes missing and Annie finds things out that will change everything.
The first few chapters gave me the impression it would be the typical husband/wife “secret hiding” kind of story but NO!! It’s so much more than that. The end was a bit predictable but it didn’t interfere with my rating because the development of the story was exceptional.
This book is divided into three parts and by the end of each part, a new plot is revealed, making it impossible to put down.
I highly recommend this book for thriller-lovers.
