Want to discuss great books with like-minded friends in Edinburgh?
The Edinburgh group has been going strong since April 2017 and has a fantastic group of members. Throughout the year we typically see between 12 to 35 attendees a month, of all ages and backgrounds. We meet in a few different city centre venues, usually on the last Thursday of the month at 7pm. It’s very relaxed and friendly, with a good mix of regular and new members each month. As well as our monthly book clubs, we also like to arrange social events such as pub quizzes and cinema trips. If you’ve got any questions don’t hesitate to reach out. Looking forward to meeting you!
Grab your seat! What we are reading in September: Smart Biz by Sara Novic
True biz? The students at the River Valley School for the Deaf just want to hook up, pass their history finals, and have politicians, doctors, and their parents stop telling them what to do with their bodies. This revelatory novel plunges readers into the halls of a residential school for the deaf, where they’ll meet Charlie, a rebellious transfer student who’s never met another deaf person before; Austin, the school’s golden boy, whose world is rocked when his baby sister is born hearing; and February, the headmistress, who is fighting to keep her school open and her marriage intact, but might not be able to do both. As a series of crises both personal and political threaten to unravel each of them, Charlie, Austin, and February find their lives inextricable from one another’s—and changed forever.
This is a story of sign language and lip-reading, disability and civil rights, isolation and injustice, first love and loss, and, above all, great persistence, daring, and joy. Absorbing and assured, idiosyncratic and relatable, this is an unforgettable journey into the Deaf community and a universal celebration of human connection.

Septembers book – the UK title is The Book Share, not the Messy Lives of Book People
Hi
I’ve just moved to Edinburgh and I’m looking for a local book club. I’ve not read Decembers book as I’ve just come across your site, but I’d love to come along to January’s meeting. When will the next book/ meet time be announced?
Thank you,
Rachel
Hi Rachel!
We will have them loaded within the next day or two. It is going to be on January 26th!
Thanks Amanda! I have booked my place!
Hi there
I booked a space for this Monday, 25 September however I am now unable to make it (due to unforeseen circumstances!)
Wasn’t sure how to cancel – I’d really like to come along to the October session – is it always the last Monday of every month?
Thanks!
Hi Megan! I have cancelled your booking for you. We can offer you a credit for a future meeting. You can email me at amanda@theglossbookclub and I can book it for you! It seems the Edinburgh chapter sometime switches up the day of the week.
Thanks .
Hi – Megan again! I can now make it on Monday as I’ve rearranged some things, so please disregard my last message – thanks!
Hey, I would love to join next month, when will the book for May be announced?
