Want to discuss great books with like-minded friends in Edinburgh?
The Edinburgh group has been going strong since April 2017 and has a fantastic group of members. Throughout the year we typically see between 12 to 35 attendees a month, of all ages and backgrounds. We meet in a few different city centre venues, usually on the last Thursday of the month at 7pm. It’s very relaxed and friendly, with a good mix of regular and new members each month. As well as our monthly book clubs, we also like to arrange social events such as pub quizzes and cinema trips. If you’ve got any questions don’t hesitate to reach out. Looking forward to meeting you!Grab your seat!
What we are reading in June: All The Lonely People by Mike Gayle
If you loved A Man Called Ove, then prepare to be delighted as Jamaican immigrant Hubert rediscovers the world he’d turned his back on, in a novel that is “warm, funny, and gives you all the feels” (Good Housekeeping).
In weekly phone calls to his daughter in Australia, widower Hubert Birdpaints a picture of the perfect retirement, packed with fun, friendship, and fulfillment. But it’s a lie. In reality, Hubert’s days are all the same, dragging on without him seeing a single soul.
Until he receives some good news — good news that in one way turns out to be the worst news ever, news that will force him out again, into a world he has long since turned his back on. The news that his daughter is coming for a visit.
Now Hubert faces a seemingly impossible task: to make his real life resemble his fake life before the truth comes out.
Along the way Hubert stumbles across a second chance at love, renews a cherished friendship, and finds himself roped into an audacious community scheme that seeks to end loneliness once and for all . . .
Life is certainly beginning to happen to Hubert Bird. But with the origin of his earlier isolation always lurking in the shadows, will he ever get to live the life he’s pretended to have for so long?
An olive branch to start a conversation.

Join us and discover a wide variety of new books, new authors, new friends and enjoy a glass of wine all at the same time. We’re delighted to welcome you into The Gloss!

I’ve just moved to Edinburgh and I’m looking for a local book club. I’ve not read Decembers book as I’ve just come across your site, but I’d love to come along to January’s meeting. When will the next book/ meet time be announced?
We will have them loaded within the next day or two. It is going to be on January 26th!
Thanks Amanda! I have booked my place!
