Earning It by E.F. Dodd is a fabulous chick lit/contemporary romance novel. It reminds me of Samantha Chase’s Shaughnessy Brothers series. Those books were sexy, sweet, and heartfelt. This book has all of that and more. It displays a woman who felt lost and burned by love. That love is now thrown back into her life. It made everything complicated. But that is what makes a great story. The more implications the characters go through, the better it is. Regan aka Rae is turning away from romance. Until she is at a wedding where her ex is also invited. From there, avoiding the sparks they still share is unavoidable. I love how their chemistry pops off the pages. Both Rae and Van have a lot of history to work through before either of them comes to a truce-like state.
Van’s work is part of the issue they shared. Van has to figure out where they went wrong. Once he figures it out, he may just have a chance to win back Rae. Rae at first, appears to be this independent yet broken woman. However, as the story progresses, she becomes more secure in herself. Her confidence and knowing what she wants also helps her relationship with Van. Each of the protagonists has a way of showing sass and attitude that just made it more irresistible. I enjoy following their banters. It is like a tennis ball match. Their banters were many and they made the book more engaging.
A few parts of the story felt stretched out but otherwise, it is a fun tale. This book is more character driven than action driven. Though the actions of the characters were interesting too. But it is more of the dialogue and interactions that made it entertaining. Inside, readers will find themes of second chances, new beginnings, and honesty. These themes fit the book perfectly! Again, Earning It is an incredible journey of love, sacrifices, and risks. It also shows forgiveness and hope. I will read more books by E.F. Dodd in the future. Her writing is great.
