I will admit when I saw the summary of this book, I was very intrigued. The topic of this book was unlike anything I have read, and I am so glad I was given the chance to review it. The Dallergut Dream Department Store by Miye Lee was truly lovely, and I don’t use that word often to describe a book.
What if the dreams you had were purchased by you each night, even if you don’t remember doing so? What dreams would you buy? Why do you think you would want that specific dream? The Dallergut Dream Store–the best store out there for the widest variety of dreams, thank you very much–is the place where all come to choose their nightly dreams. Located in the collective subconscious of living things both humans and animals because all dream of course, come in to purchase their new dreams for that night’s sleep. Penny, a brand-new hire to her dream job, finds working here to be wonderful and, at times, intimidating. Throughout the book she meets a wide variety of characters, both those who work in the store and customers who seek to browse.
I really enjoyed this book! It gave me a feeling like I had when I watched the movie Inside Out; like I was inside the inner workings of something wonderful. It is no surprise, in my opinion, that it is an international hit already! This story was so magical, something I personally love in a work of fiction, and really had me thinking about the dreams that I have and the experiences of déjà vu that have happened in my life (you will know why when you read this book). I also learned that this is the first in a duology, so I look forward to reading the sequel when it is released! I highly recommend reading this story if you want a nice cozy read with a magical feel.
