Abandoned. That’s the one word I think my husband and children would use to describe their feelings after I had my nose buried in this book for two days. I wish I could put my finger on why exactly I was obsessed with this book. It wasn’t really spicy, there wasn’t a mystery/thriller component, and it revolved around teenagers, which is not usually my go to. BUT when I tell you this book consumed me for two days straight, I mean I literally thought about it every second that I wasn’t reading it, and I picked it up any chance that I could get. The way Chloe Walsh writes makes for such a smooth, entrancing read. You feel so incredibly invested and connected to the characters that the NEED to know what is going to happen next in their stories is strong.
The amount of times my heart broke for Shannon and I wanted to be able to physically jump inside the book to protect her was ridiculous. I love that she has a Joey in her life, but also, I can’t imagine the amount of responsibility on his shoulders, and I truly look forward to reading his book as well. Johnny Kavanaugh was the epitome of book boyfriend in this first book, but my heart just knows that he is going to surpass himself in the second book. At first, I felt myself wishing they would just finally get together, but after the build up (for basically the entire book), I wouldn’t change a thing. They are teenagers, one with immense amount of pressure, and the other going through insane levels of trauma. I actually appreciate that the author took the time to build their relationship and show how hard it is to let someone in when it’s hard for you to trust. Aside from all of the serious moments that were handled with expertness, the humor was such a needed and amazing addition! Gibsie is officially one of my favorite supporting characters ever, and the way I laughed out loud at times really cemented my love for this book. The second that I read the last line, I immediately ordered the second book. Two day shipping, and it’s the longest two days of my life!
