Wow, this was not what I expected. I honestly passed over this book a few times on my TBR shelf and went with something else because I expected another surface level romcom, and I wasn’t quite in the mood. Boy, oh boy, was I wrong. The rollercoaster of emotions that this author took me on was quite intense. I loved how fast the storyline started. There wasn’t a lot of character build-up prior to the main characters meeting, and I was worried that I wasn’t going to feel connected to them but learning about them through them falling in love with each other… it was beautiful! Audrey was one of my favorite female leads that I have read in a long time. She did not waiver in her strength, supportiveness, and her loyalty to Theo. She was a strong woman, and it was refreshing to read a book where the female didn’t need saving, and SHE was the queen in shining armor. Now, I loved Theo, I really did, but he bugged me sometimes. I enjoyed getting to see the emotional and nonperfect side of a male main character, but sometimes he came off immature and whiny. It was more than just showing emotions; it was having reactions like a teenager might. My person opinion is that it could have been written in a way that stayed in the emotion of it and not made him seem like he was throwing a temper tantrum. Regardless, obviously he was delicious and sweet and all the things we love in our book boyfriends! The author did a phenomenal job keeping the reader engaged and dying to know what happened to Theo and learning how he got his scars. We were given tiny little crumbs that kept us wanting more, and I kept thinking to myself how well done it was! I was challenged by how long the chapters were. I think each chapter could have been split into three, at least. It makes it easy to put the book down because I know I don’t have time for just one more chapter. Such a small detail, but it really does make a difference to me.
