Wahala By Nikki May (Review by Kala Saxon)

Nikki takes readers on a rollercoaster ride that is all too familiar on reality television shows with groups of women. Ronke, Boo, and Simi have the picture-perfect friendship, or do they? Isobel shows up and steals the scene. Any flaws that may have been lingering in the lives of the three friends is about the be blown up. The disorder that ensues with these women is thrilling, yet almost comical. Isobel is not quite what she seems. Her arrival also puts a strain on the bond between the three friends. Each of the women find themselves in situations that cause turmoil on themselves. They have to decide whether to follow their gut instincts and approach Isobel or continue to ignore the signs that something is off about her. What I liked about this story was how the plot moved along. It didn’t even linger too long on things that didn’t really seem relevant. The story progresses in a mix of fast and slow pace. I also loved all of the culture on the page. The one thing I had to sit on for a moment was how the book ended. It’s not a picture-perfect ending wrapped in a bow, but it does have closure. If you are a fan of messy, dramatic, over the top nonsense then this is the book for you. It was like experiencing Real Housewives firsthand.
