Thief of Fate by Jude Deveraux (Review by Stephanie Rowitz)

Sometimes the hardest thing we have to do for the ones we love is let them go… At least that’s what Liam O’Connor is trying to do. Liam knows that the fate of the universe depends on Liam’s love, Cora, ending up with Finn, but he just can’t seem to let her go. Under orders from the angels, Liam dutifully tries to push Cora and Finn together, but the more he tries to force it, the more Cora longs to be with Liam. Will Liam ever be able to let her go, or will they find a way to be together against all odds? Thief of Fate is the third installment and satisfying conclusion to the Providence Falls series. I recommend reading the first two books in the series before reading this one since it might be difficult to get fully immersed in Liam and Cora’s story without the full context of the other books. I like how the author shows the reader Liam’s inner turmoil over trying to do the right thing. He knows that he has to let Cora go, but he’s torn. Even though he wants Cora to be happy, he wants her to be happy with him. Throughout this book you really understand Liam’s dilemma and why this is so difficult for him. It’s remarkable how much he grows as a character between the beginning and the end of the book. I also think that the writing is very expressive and precise. There are many word choices used in this book that serve as a subtle reminder as to who is in charge of Liam and Cora’s fate and why it matters. Clearly, there was great care taken in the words and phrases chosen for this book, and I like that it always reflected back to the theme of the story. Thief of Fate will leave you feeling satisfied, reflective, and curious about what fate just might have in store for you.
