Peter writes in a way that keeps you reading with no regard for your surroundings – you may just finish this one in a single sitting! It’s just that easy to be drawn into his stories filled with complex characters, mounting suspense, and heart-stopping twists you’ll never see coming. The Kind Worth Saving is a follow-up to his first New York Times best seller: The Kind Worth Killing. Although some of the main characters are from the first novel, you can read this one as a standalone. I personally suggest reading them both back to back to have more of a connection with the characters but this novel holds its own weight without having read the first. Swanson is a master of writing multiple points of view and this book is no exception. Readers are able to see the story from all angles, giving a bird’s eye view of each scenario. Even though he gives all the pieces to the puzzle, the order in which they’re given creates the perfect amount of tension. I enjoyed the police procedural aspect but it doesn’t take over the narrative. This is not a book about a private investigator solving a crime, rather, the story of a crime from the points of view of everyone involved. I highly suggest this novel to anyone who is a fan of twisty psychological thrillers, characters behaving badly, multiple points of view, and explosive endings.
