When 4-year old Amabel Martin insists she is being followed by a young red-headed girl, her nanny Finn isn’t sure if it’s another of her infamous “fibs” or if she should take it seriously. However, when the young girl shows up again, it leads Finn down a path that forces her question everything she thought she knew about herself and the famous family she felt she belonged to. Natalie “Finn” Hunt moved to Arizona to escape her past and start over. However, when she doesn’t exactly find her dream job she ends up as the nanny to a prominent Arizona family, the Martins. The Martins are considered the “first” family of Phoenix with Phillip set to replace his father as the long-time beloved senator when it’s time. Finn feels she is finally in a place she belongs with a job she loves, a lifestyle she envies, and a boyfriend who she adores. Everything won’t stay perfect for long and when the mysterious red-head shows up again, this time at the Martin house, Finn is forced to either pass along a message that could be the end of her beloved “family” or risk everything to find the truth. After a tragic accident at the Martin house, Finn is dismissed from her job with no more than an envelope of money and best wishes for the future. With feelings of bewilderment and a sense of loss, Finn is compelled to find out the truth even if it costs her everything she thought she loved. As Finn uncovers deep family secrets she realizes that everyone is running from something and nothing is ever as perfect as it seems. While I really enjoyed the book, it left me wanting more and I didn’t get the closure I was hoping for but felt like it was still worth the read. This book is easy to follow and the storyline will keep you turning page after page. Its twists and turns will lead you down the familiar paths of the grass isn’t always greener on the other side and secrets can’t be kept forever.
