Somebody Worth Killing, Jessica Payne (Review by Jaimee Jordan)

Somebody Worth Killing by Jessica Payne was a solid four-star read for me. It was a suspenseful and entertaining thriller that kept me engaged from start to finish. Going into this book, I was a little worried it might feel too similar to Mr. & Mrs. Smith because of the premise involving a married couple with dangerous secrets. While it does give off a similar vibe at times, the story quickly takes its own direction. Instead of feeling like a copy of that concept, it develops into something much darker and more unpredictable, leading to a twist I didn’t fully see coming but really enjoyed. One of the strongest parts of this book is the pacing. The chapters move quickly, making it an easy book to get pulled into and hard to put down. Payne does a great job building tension throughout the story and slowly revealing pieces of information that make you question what you think you know about the characters. As the story unfolds, more secrets come to light and the stakes continue to rise. I also appreciated how morally complicated the characters were. No one in the story feels completely innocent, and their motivations are often messy and questionable. This added an extra layer of suspense because it kept me guessing about who could really be trusted and what each character might be capable of. While I enjoyed the book overall, there were a few moments where I wished certain character motivations had been explored a little more deeply. A couple of plot developments also felt slightly predictable and a bit unnecessary. However, the twist and overall tension made up for that and kept the story engaging. Overall, Somebody Worth Killing is a fast-paced psychological thriller with plenty of suspense, secrets, and unexpected turns. If you enjoy thrillers involving assassins that keep you guessing and play with morally gray characters, this is definitely a book worth picking up.
