One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid (Review by Erin Woodward)

Holly Molly. This is September’s Girly Book Club read and it’s pretty heavy. Not is a sobbing at the gym kind of way but in a “WTF” kind of way. Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart and has an unusually good time of things (considering they met so young). Head over heels, completely in love her husband disappears on their 1 year marriage anniversary in a helicopter crash. Cue soul-destroying despair, Emma is left as a shell of a woman and spends the next two years trying to find the will to live. Enter Sam, another high school boy that she crushed on once upon a time. Slowly they build a relationship together and Emma falls once again in love. They even get engaged. Then one sunny day (might not have been sunny, I don’t remember) and she gets a call from first husband who turns out isn’t as dead as first expected! So now what?! This is the premise for the entire book – how you can love two people at the same time and figure out which is your one true love. I loved this book because it’s so hopeful for anyone who has been destroyed by failed love – that we may live to love another day. It’s very usual, unlikely and very reminiscent of the movie Cast Away but it’s definitely worth the time it took me to read it. A quick and addictive read. Review by Erin Woodward
