Jess is mugged in a parking lot on the way home from a disastrous date and suffers a head injury. When Jess wakes up, she’s in Ireland. She meets Eamonn and embarks on a whirlwind 48 hours. I feel like I’ve been saying this a lot lately, but once again I found myself reading a story with unreached potential—and yet, there were some truly bright spots that made the journey worthwhile. The first chapter pulled me in immediately, and I thought, yes, this is going to be good . Chapter two kept that momentum going, and the premise itself was fresh and unique enough to keep me genuinely intrigued. The middle section did slow down for me, and I found myself wishing for more tension, more emotional whiplash, and more hints about the FMC’s mental state—especially since the author gave us that one fascinating moment suggesting she might actually be in a coma. There was so much room to play with that idea, and sprinkling in more of those unsettling, reality-blurring moments could have elevated the entire experience. Even so, I’m glad I stuck with it. The final third absolutely redeemed the read for me. The connection between the main characters deepened in a way that felt meaningful and exciting, and I found myself fully invested in discovering the truth. I wasn’t sure what kind of ending I wanted, but the author surprised me in the best way. I appreciated that the book did not end perfectly neatly. Sometimes life is strange and unexplainable, and I loved seeing that reflected here. Overall, the strong opening and powerful ending made this a memorable story. With a bit more energy in the center, this could easily be a phenomenal read.
