I’m Not Done With You Yet by Jesse Q. Sutanto (Review by Shay Tibbs)

When did you first realize you’re not normal? GAH, that first line grabbed me right in for this somewhat creepy unexpected thriller about a friendship between two girls who meet at university, and don’t speak for years in a dual timeline that will surprise you in the best way. This one is so hard to review without giving it all away, but I’m going to keep it as spoiler free as possible. Just know that when the BIG moment comes, even if you have an inkling where Sutanto is taking the story you’re still sure to be as surprised as I was. Beautifully written, this was such a different genre than what I had already read from this author but I am such a fan girl for her writing style, and I was so impressed by how different this book was from her other work. We start with our main character, Jane who is living a rather unhappy, mundane life as a mid-list writer and has always believed herself to be a sociopath. After years of hoping to see her old friend’s appearance on social media at minimum, she’s shocked to find Thalia, who’s previously written under a pen name announced as the newly a NY Times bestseller who will be attending a thriller book convention. Nothing can stop her from seeing her, and as she gives away pieces of herself to get there, we discover that unrequited love can happen in friendships as well and that sometimes those we love most are the ones taking advantage of us in the worst ways. Sutanto uses flashbacks to set the scene of this twisty slow burn, that builds to an intense third act that is well worth the wait. Full of toxic friendships and harsh truths, I’m Not Done With You Yet dives into her characters’ insecurities in a way that will leave you wanting to know more, dragging you into a web full of flawed characters you won’t know who to trust, and can’t wait to see where the story is going. Pick this one up if you’re someone who wants to see an obsession taken too far, who enjoys a psychological thriller that you’ll be thinking of days after reading.
