Book review

I’m finding it so unbelievably hard to rate this book. While it wasn’t necessarily my go to style, I understood the significance of what I was reading. It was powerful to know that the author was writing from personal experience, and I can only imagine how cathartic it was to get all of that out on to paper. How special and honoured we should feel that we were given insight into something so private for another person. I wish that we could have had an opportunity to read an epilogue to see how Eliot and Manuel were doing, or where they ended up. Was Eliot still drowning herself in work? How was Eliot coping with the Worries now that she had admitted she loved Manuel? Maybe even one epilogue chapter from Manuel’s point of view. It would have been equally as powerful to get a small glimpse of the other side, loving someone with OCD. I did feel like the book was on the slower side for the first half. I noticed that I kept feeling this “let’s get on with it” vibe, but at the same time, there were enough breadcrumbs that I wanted to find out how everything was going to play out. Again, strictly style wise, it wasn’t something that I couldn’t put down, but I think the impact that this book will have on others suffering from similar OCD symptoms, and just the feelings of validation it could bring, go way beyond a simple number rating.
