For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing (Review by Taylor Bridgeforth)

“Don’t express every single emotion you have. You’ll look unstable.” ‘For Your Own Good’ by Samantha Downing was a psychological mystery within the depths of a private school. When I saw the synopsis, I wasn’t sure I’d get much out of another prep school murder mystery but I was pleasantly surprised. I really, really enjoyed this read. I always love a murder mystery but the psychological behind every character’s actions is what kept me intrigued. Each character assumed they were doing what was best and while some were blatantly off (TEDDY!), others weren’t completely but still made questioning decisions. Brilliant. In my unpopular opinion, it goes to show it is better to get to know someone before assuming their personality matches their family, marital or financial status. Perhaps, giving someone a chance from the beginning sets a better tone for belonging and friendship—rather than the grudge some may hold for years. This read was quick and painful in the best way! The chapters are short, and the suspense is gripping, and the murder count continues…continued—I had to force myself to stop for bedtime, for work, etc. I just hope the fictional end holds up in the fictional future and everyone finds and promotes growth to be the best version of themselves.
