Book review

This novel was so fun to read. Taking place in the small town of Cemetery, Indiana it tells the story of flower shop owner Emily Lucretia – who wasn’t really looking for love but when Saul Culver starts making his intentions known the whole town gets involved. Emily is divorced and is protective of her aging aunt and uncle who have been responsible for her after her parents died in an accident when she was younger. She is known as the “flower lady” around town which causes gossip on social media about who she may be involved with. She is a compassionate and helpful person with her employees and others in the town, always trying to plan for the next step in her life or others. The book reminds me a lot of the novel Virgin River, where people in the town are included in the main characters life as well as having their own stories to tell. I enjoyed how the author, Lori Foster, developed each of the characters and how she introduced them into the story. She is very good at entwining the main and supporting characters lives so that we see the connections made between all of them. This helps to understand how they all play into the main story. My favourite character is the town’s founder’s great granddaughter Betty Cemetery. She is a mischievous older lady in her 80’s and has a way of making sure that she is involved in everything that happens in the town. She can be a bother at times but has the wisdom and kindness to help others figure out what they need to do. With themes of romance, kept secrets from past lives and concerns about how to keep family close – the stories keep you involved right to the end. I was engaged with wanting to find out whose relationship is going to blossom and whose might not make it to the end. It’s a great book for taking to the beach and enjoy lying in the sun with a great drink. Buy the book! Amazon Canada Amazon US
