Book review

I love a bit of fantasy. It’s my go to genre so when the opportunity arose to read In The Hour of Crows by by Dana Elmendorf I took it. The descriptor for it says: Where the Crawdads Sing meets Practical Magic, swoon. I LOVED both of those books so much it was the perfect marriage in my eyes. The title “The Hour of Crows” refers to that brief moment of time between the end of the day and the beginning of night – which in all fairness is really the perfect title for a moody Southern Fantasy. Weatherly Wilder is a Death Talker, what does that mean? She can the death out of the dying, but only once. Weatherly’s best friend Adaire also have a gift, she’s a Scryer which means she sees what’s going to happen in the future before it happens. Once we get to know these characters including Weatherly’s Grandmother witch who helps deliver babies and tends to the sick with her herbal remedies. Adaire is then hit in a bicycle accident but not before she sees some unnerving future events. Weatherly must get to the bottom of this. All in all it’s such a well done tome, and if you like fantasy, even a bit it’s a great read. Buy the book!
