Arthur and Teddy are Coming Out by Ryan Love (Review by Maggie Majstrova)

When Arthur Edwards invites his adult children over for dinner (partners and children are explicitly not invited), everyone suspects there is something important to be shared. But neither of Arthur’s children were expecting him to tell him he is gay and, at 79 years old, finally ready to stop living his lie. The news sends shockwaves not just through the family, but through the small community in which they live. Meanwhile, Arthur’s 21-year-old grandson, Teddy, had been developing feelings for his colleague Ben, while working up to courage to come out to his family too. But now, he must navigate what the way his grandfather’s news had been received means for his future too. What I loved about the characters in this book was that they were relatable but also particularly strong. Every time I wished they would respond in a certain way, stick up for themselves, don’t back down – they did. They are living, what I can only imagine, are lives lived all around us and it was an absolute pleasure to be part of their story for a little while. I have been recommending this book to anyone and everyone since I absolutely devoured it.
