This is the second book that I have read lately that I have had trouble rating. On one hand, it’s not really the type of book that hooks me, but on the flip side, I find small moments throughout the story that really tug at my heart strings. There were two characters in this book that truly kept me wanting to know more about their stories. When I would finish one chapter, I would skim the next one to see if it was about Tim or Leo. If it was, I would find myself saying, “okay, just one more and then I’ll be done for the night.” I feel that the second half of the book went much faster for me than the first half. Typically, if I am not into a book by page 100, I’ll set it to the side, but I will say that I felt like I needed to know what happened in the end. I wish there would have been an epilogue that showed where Bud ended up, especially with Clara. Their small romance saved the story for me. It was organic, witty, and felt incredibly genuine. In fact, the witty comments between all of the characters were great. Personally, I deal with trauma with sarcasm, so I resonated with this aspect of the story. I can see why others would fall in love with this book, it was just not my first choice of storyline!
