Shew! Katee Robert knows how to pull you into a story! There is action from the first page and it doesn’t let up until the final chapter. I was completely entranced by the worlds (and the space between them) created in this book. Full of fantastical beings, adventure, and plenty of spice, this is a fast-paced read that will have you gripping your seat and gasping for more!
Evelyn isn’t your average witch. She has a penchant for danger and a knack for thievery. After stealing something valuable from her vampire ex and falling through a portal to another realm, Evelyn is really in a mess. The Threshold is the magical sea realm between worlds with members of the Cwn Annwn (Coon Anoon) guarding it to ensure other worlds stay safe. The Cwn Annwn just so happen to be a band of pirates and if they find you, you must choose between joining them and death. Evelyn is scooped out of the sea by pirates on Bowen’s ship.
Once she is brought to the captain, there is an instant connection. The longer they spend together, the stronger their bond. Evelyn joins them on their mission to keep the islands of The Threshold safe from sea creatures but has every intention of escaping them the first chance she gets. As the days pass, the danger escalates putting Evelyn and Bowen in a true test of fight or flight. Will their feelings for each other be the bond that keeps it all together or the force putting them in the most danger?
I absolutely adored Evelyn and Bowen both separately and together. Their bond is strong and is written so well! The spicy scenes are intense but don’t feel overdone or forced. They’re very much a part of Evelyn and Bowen’s love story and I loved every second! There are some wonderful side characters that helped bring the story to life and gave it more depth. Book two of this series comes out in 2024 and I cannot wait to see what comes next for this crew!
If you are a fan of enemies to lovers, fantasy worlds and creatures, open-door spice, and lots of adventure, this book is definitely for you!
