Interview With Melbourne Host Erin Beasley

We’ll be the first to tell you that our Girly Book Club hosts are the backbone of our entire community. All around the world, they organize each monthly book club meeting, warmly welcome members into our community, facilitate great discussion surrounding our book of the month, and are all-around rockstars!

We want to celebrate our hosts and give you the opportunity to shine a light on your chapter host. With that, we’re excited to spotlight one of our amazing hosts, Erin Beasley from Melbourne!

We asked Erin to share with us some of her favorites.

Girly Book Club: Tell us a bit about your love of books/reading?

Erin: My love of reading started from a young age. I grew up with a mother who loves to read and always ensured that books where accessible to us growing up. As I became older, I loved to go and find books that interested me and would usually spend hours reading them. Reading to me, has been a wonderful way to stimulate my imagination and to escape into to unknown realms. I love to read a great book and then be able to share books with my friends and family. That’s what I love most about the Girly Book Club: sharing wonderful books with amazing friends.

GBC: Best book you’ve read recently?

Erin: I have two stand out books that I have read this year. The first one is Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton. I could not put this book down, it was so beautifully written and featured some very powerful female characters as the leads. It was interesting to learn more about the Cuban culture and revolution.

The second book is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I also could not put this book down. It was very thought-provoking and I love how it explored human relationships and how individuals respond to them.

GBC: What is one movie, TV series, or podcast that you’re loving right now?

Erin: I really enjoy the podcast Science VS. It explores popular and controversial science topics, by using research to prove or disprove the theories.

GBC: Name your favourite bookshop in the world.

Erin: My favourite book shop, is also my local shop: Dymocks on Collins Street, Melbourne. It’s a huge book shop, which features any kind of book that you could be looking for. I spend hours there sometimes and they also have a cafe, so it’s a great place to spend an afternoon reading.
