If you ever got to go to summer camp, then this may well be the book for you. I was a lucky kid and my grandparents footed the bill for me to spend some time at a sleep away camp when I was little. There was nothing better. It truly was heaven on earth – what with s’mores, canoeing, camping, arts and crafts – every minute was more exciting than the last. That’s why Kate Spencer’s book really spoke to me – as it’s the perfect summer read as Clara Millen is headed back for some R&R to her childhood summer camp for a reunion.
There’s all the ingredients for the perfect read: a childhood competitor, Mack, joins – to her immediate annoyance and delight. He’s all grown up and, of course, he’s gorgeous. Sparks fly. But when Clara finds out that the camp is to be sold, her rest and relaxation start to dwindle as nostalgia takes front seat.
The novel has all the feelings of a romance or YA, but I do feel like it’s better characterized as women’s fiction as the characters are rich and well-developed. It had me gunning for my own Camp Reunion and I literally went down a rabbit hole looking for summer camps adults could attend.
