Bride is the first paranormal romance from bestselling author Ali Hazelwood, who is best known for beloved rom coms like Love On the Brain, that are set in the world of STEM-focused academia. She proves to be just as skilled with vampire and werewolf lore as she is in the lab.
The story follows the marriage of convenience between Misery Lark, a loner vampyre who’s spent most of her life as a pawn in her powerful father’s political machinations, and Lowe Moreland, the ruggedly handsome Alpha (but not “alpha-hole”) of the local Were pack. The marriage is meant as a first step in forming a fragile peace between the two warring species, but Misery has her own hidden reason for agreeing to get close to Lowe. When it turns out their interests are aligned in a way neither of them expected, their alliance become a true partnership in more ways than one. But some intriguing twists, and one big anatomical challenge, keep their road to happily ever after a journey worth following.
Despite veering away from her rom com roots, Hazelwood infuses plenty of humor and heart into this interspecies romance. Her readers will be delighted by the chemistry and banter between Misery and Lowe, even if there’s a bit of a wait for things to heat up. The ending had me racing to my phone to look up if Hazelwood had announced a sequel. I hope she’ll give us another chance to run with this pack.
