It Ends With Us: Trigger Warning

Ladies,

So many of you have had such positive feedback on this month’s book. Many of you claimed you read it in one sitting, or stayed up hours into the night finishing it. It was most certainly a readable book.

For me, as the founder of the Girly Book Club, this is a wonderful book club choice – not only because so many of you enjoyed it but because it deals with hard issues. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover discusses in detail the struggle of a girl who lived through the domestic abuse of her parents and then despite being quite vocal about her own mother’s weakness has to make hard choices and deal with it herself in her own personal relationship. For me, this is the first time I’ve been able to understand why a woman may not leave when abused by her partner – which is surely a testament to Colleen Hoover and her incredible talent as an author.

I see this book as a wonderful opportunity to bring to life a conversation around a sensitive and difficult topic.

During this months meeting I ask you to be mindful of the conversations you’re having and pay special attention to the members in the room and be sensitive to any reactions to what is being said.

Of course, all members are welcome to attend our monthly meetings, whether you’ve read the book or not, as always. We’d like to be open and let you know that you that much of the discussion will surround this subject matter and we hope the conversations that we share together at our meeting this month can be open, supportive, and thoughtful.

We’d also like to provide you with relevant links for further information or support, should you need it.
