* Trigger Warning: The author does a great job of listing all the topics and content that could potentially be upsetting to anyone-but keep in mind you are picking up a book about killers killing killers, so it was never going to be for everyone *
I don’t think I have ever read a romance novel like this in my life! I don’t even know if another romance novel like this exists, to be honest. This was such a wild ride, and I was here for every minute of it! Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver was such an entertaining read but, I will be honest- when I saw the summary of this book, and read the author’s disclaimer at the beginning, I was a bit nervous about what I was getting myself into lol. You will see what I mean from this summary…
Sloane is a killer who kills other serial killers, the Orb Weaver to be exact, and she unexpectedly finds her path crossed with the Boston Butcher-Rowan-in a precarious situation. Rowan too is a killer who kills serial killers-what are the odds!? When these two meet they find something neither of them expected, a friendship with someone who truly sees them for who they are-darkness and all. Following this meeting, the two meet once a year for a game of murder where first to kill the killer wins. But when they realize they may feel more for the other than just friendship, where does that leave them? Can these two dark individuals find love?
I’d like to share the three main reasons I absolutely loved this book. First, this novel had one of my favorite things in a romance – dual perspectives! I absolutely love when we hear from both main characters, so props to the author on this! Second, and another unique part of this novel, (besides the whole plot and everything) was the inclusion of a playlist to listen to while reading each chapter. The song choices were fantastic! They really fit the mood of the chapter and got me to listen to a lot of songs I may not have normally gravitated towards. Third, this is the first in a series and I am so about that because I cannot wait for Book #2, which I believe is featuring Rowan’s brother-Lachlan! Sign me up!
