I think Ree Drummond and I need to sit down together for lunch, especially since she can cook. I think that could well be one of the most enlightening meetings of my life – the things I could learn from this lady, far beyond cooking and eating about life and mothering.
I devoured this book, in all it’s simple hilarity. Ree – for those of you who don’t know – is a mother of 4. She’s also known as the Pioneer Woman and you can find her on the Food Network. She married a cattle rancher and moved out into the middle of nowhere to raise her kids on an Oklahoma ranch.
This autobiographical book (she’s written many others including children stories and cook books) is all about the shenanigans her and her family get up to on this ranch. It’s a fun, heartwarming tale of mothering, wifing and juggling 100 other balls at the same time. I laughed out loud, I cried, it was the perfect mix of fun and family.
For instance on page 137, she actually outlines her own “Mom Report Card”, which I found very endearing as she gave herself F’s in ways she felt like she failed her family (ie. doing her daughter’s hair), but then A’s in ways she felt she thrived, such as laughing a lot and listening to The Eagles around her kids. Ha. You can’t help but root for her! I enjoyed it a lot.
