Beneath the Poet’s House, Christa Carmen (Review by Anna Sitthi-amorn)

“Beneath the Poet’s House” is a hauntingly beautiful novel that I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys dark and gothic fictions. The author’s lyrical language is simply stunning – every sentence feels like it was crafted with care. The descriptions of the eerie houses and nearby graveyards are so vivid. The gothic atmosphere completely pulled me in, and I love how it felt like a character all on it’s own. The story itself is compelling, with an engaging plotline, unreliable narrators, and unpredictable twists that left me speechless. Just when I thought I had figured it out, the author surprised me in a way that made the whole experience even more satisfying. The references to Edgar Allan Poe and Sarah Helen Whitman added another layer of intrigue and got me curious to learn more about them. However, readers should be aware that the book includes depictions of domestic abuse, which may be triggering for some. My other minor complaints are the slower pacing at the beginning and some of the dialogues did not feel realistic. A few scenes dragged on, and some of the characters’ speech and thoughts felt unnatural. Overall, it’s a solid read for fans of gothic literature, and I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars!
