Plot Twist by Erin La Rosa (Review By Sara D’Onofrio)

Ugh, this book had potential. The plot was cute, the characters were likeable, and it handled a delicate situation with care and respect; however, I found the writing to be incredibly superficial and lacking. There was almost no build-up to any of the intimate scenes between the characters. It felt like they would be having a normal conversation, one of them would make a sexual innuendo, and then boom, they were intimate in some way. It lacked the angst that I look for in a book, and the angst is what keeps me coming back for more. The scenes felt so out of place, and it made them feel unbelievable. The scene in their backyard seemed so out of nowhere, and that fact that it was so quick and then they went their separate ways, I was like wait what? Scenes felt incomplete to me, and it was like important moments were rushed, while non-important scenes drug on. This is exactly how I would describe the ending too. So rushed, sexual innuendo, boom, it was over. I closed the book feeling irritated as opposed to sad it was over. I will say that I really enjoyed Chris as a supporting character. His character was the most developed for me, and he provided depth while also providing humor. I loved how he handled Dash’s relapse, and I think those last few chapters were the best writing of the book, and boosted my rating slightly. One other thing that I liked was the unexpected reveal of the leaked source. I did not see that coming and whenever an author can throw me an unexpected curveball, I appreciate it! Overall, it obviously wasn’t my favorite read, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be someone else’s!
