Book review

Now, this is a historical fiction but not a WW2 story. That is something I thoroughly enjoyed about this book. I’ve read my share of and enjoyed several WW2 stories but sometimes you just want a historical story that doesn’t focus on the war or even life being impacted by the war. If that is something that you’re looking for then you should check out this book. I loved the way the story develops. You get a sense of the tragedy and pain that lies in the pages along with the secrets. Janey is full of spirit and has hidden her pain behind her dedication to her job. Irene hides her secrets behind her family. Both women are stubborn and full of determination that is unusual for both of their lifetimes. They are fierce and independent. The interaction between the two characters brings the story to life. You become emotionally involved in the story between Sam and Irene. You also find yourself wanting to know more and more about Janey Everett. That there is more to each of these characters than meets the eye. There is strong female character representation in this story, along with love, tragedy, pain, and conflict resolution. You have a duel timeline (something that I can’t get enough of in any story) and a style of writing that keeps you glued to the pages and engrossed in the story. I was able to pick up right where I left off each time I opened this book to read it. The story and the characters stay with you. Oh, and there’s a little bit of a plot twist. Who can say no to that? ⠀⠀ Add this to your summer reading list. It is scheduled to be published June 30th.
