Permanent Marker is a memoir that takes place over a slew of years in the Aimee Ross’s (the author’s) life where she went through a lot of traumatic experiences. After reading the back cover, as I am extremely guilty of doing before I dive into any story I read, I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, or if I was going to enjoy the book, but once I got started I found that I was captivated by this woman’s story and I am so very appreciative that shared it with readers across the world.

Aimee had a difficult few months: deciding she wanted a divorce, suffering from a stress-related heart attack, living through a horrific car accident due to a teen driver under the influence, and struggling to wonder how and why she survived (and was put through) one hardship after another. This personal recounting this woman’s story astounded me, and I couldn’t put it down. I was in awe of this woman’s complete resilience to keep living life to the fullest throughout all the hardships she encountered.

Not only does this story bring up the author’s persistence to survive despite everything going on in her life, it really gives people a look into how you can continue to achieve your goals even when everything seems like everything is going wrong. The writing is also superb, which makes sense because this woman is an award-winning high school English teacher. You really feel like you’re going through her journey with her. It’s a genuine piece of writing and I just want to say thank you to Aimee for sharing her story with the world.

I was really inspired by this story (clearly) and I would definitely advise this book to be read by any Girly Book Club member. This book is sure to leave a permanent mark in you (pun intended).
