Bachelor Nation by Amy Kaufman (Review by Caitlin Winkler)

I watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette! Yes, I said it. I am guilty of joining millions of America’s each Monday night in watching America’s favorite guilty pleasure, and I am not ashamed! I sit for two hours and watch people on TV “fall in love” in about 6 weeks and “live happily every after” and I am bragging about it! So naturally, when I had the opportunity to read Bachelor Nation: Inside the World of America’s Favorite Guilty Pleasure by Amy Kaufman, I jumped on it. Regardless of your feelings on the Bachelor franchise, you cannot minimize the success that this show has had across America since its first season aired well over a decade ago. This book, which the author states led to her being banned from attending many events related to the Bachelor, dissects the show, the creators, and the “fairy tale” that America is given each season. Amy Kaufman’s book includes questions such as, what really happens behind the scenes, what makes this such a widely popular show across the country that people host viewing parties each season, and how real is the finished product we watch? This was such a fun read that made me laugh out loud on my commute. This was a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of this show, the filming and the screening processes, and the path of ‘falling in love’ that this shows leads the viewers on each season. Whether or not you are a fan of the Bachelor, even if you are just a secret fan, this book is worth reading! Check it out on Amazon
