This book had me hooked from the first chapter with an explosive opening – literally. The story starts off with a bomb incident at a neighbourhood party, an intense scene that instantly pulled me into the tension, suspicion, and secrets lurking beneath the surface of this seemingly ordinary community. It was a bold start and a great way to set the tone for a twisty domestic thriller.
One of the strongest aspects of the book is its character development. The author gives each character a layered history that unfolds gradually, revealing each character’s flaws over time. At first, the characters appear to have separate storylines, but as the plot progresses, their lives intersect in surprising ways. I especially liked that none of the characters were perfect – every character had something to hide which made for a few laugh out loud moments.
Once the story hits its halfway point, it became incredibly fast-paced – I couldn’t put it down! Major twists hit at just the right moments, and several caught me completely off guard, which is always enjoyable in a thriller.
While the ending was a bit far-fetched, I still found it satisfying. It ties up the plot threads neatly and provides the kind of entertainment value that makes thrillers fun, even if a few moments required some suspension of disbelief. I can see how some readers might find it a bit far-fetched but I enjoyed it.
Overall, Too Close to Home is an entertaining read filled with tension and secrets. With its suburban drama, layered characters, and shocking reveals, I could see this book turning into a hit TV series, something similar to Big Little Lies.
Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a twisty thriller – happy reading!
