Okay first off let me start this review by saying STOP READING THIS RIGHT NOW, and go buy THINGS NO ONE CAN TEACH US by Humble the Poet.
Okay moving on,
I was so happy to receive this book from The Girly Book club to review. The cover is gorgeous! (I’m a sucker for a nice cover) I know, I know. Every book lover will tell you not to judge a book by its cover. It’s what we were taught since we were young. But I’m sorry we all know we do it, let’s just own it!
When I read through the Glossary I fell in love, the chapter titles were so insightful and I couldn’t wait to dive in.
Each and every chapter I found so interesting and insightful. I had to stop after each and every one to really digest the information and make some notes on how to apply the lessons to my own life. I loved how raw and frank his writing was, I found it very relatable and I appreciated that.
Some of my favourite chapters were:
We gotta pay the tuition for life lessons
Try to relate to the bad guys in your story
Judge less, understand more
And
Chapters end, but our story as a whole keeps evolving
I loved the personal stories woven in and the life lessons he learned the hard way. I really think this book was relatable and for that I think you will love it. The harder the lessons he learned the more connected I felt to the book and the overall message. I found myself saying “yeah”, or “I’ve suffered something similar”.
Working in a mental health hospital I am eager to suggest this book to some of the patients I work with and come into contact with. I think the messages and themes would do people the world of good.
A lot of books like this have big grand ideas about step by step check lists to take to make your life better. This one didn’t and for that I loved it even more.
I’ll stop here, I don’t want to give away to much. But I am seriously bursting with how much I loved this book. When I saw it at Chapters this week I made sure it was front and centre for all to see.
If my review hasn’t convinced you to give this book a try, then just do it anyways. You won’t regret it! And when your done, loan it to your friend who may need a pick me up, or the other friend you have who is struggling a bit right now. I can guarantee you, they will call you when they are finished reading it and thank you for suggesting it to them and tell you they lent it to someone else.
Enjoy and Happy reading fellow bookworms
Sincerely
Amanda
