Oh. My. God! A COMPLETELY different story than I was prepared for.
Frank hasn’t spoken for six months and Maggie hasn’t spoken for three months. I ask why?! Reading the synopsis, I thought Frank was being petty in some way, shape or form—BUT as soon as Maggie overdosed on sleeping pills he sprang into action to save her.
While Maggie is in a coma, Frank tells their love story from his point of view (you get Maggie’s side too but I was more interested in Frank because he started the silent treatment ;)). Maggie could do no wrong in Frank’s eyes and all he wanted to give her was a child because he knew how much it meant to her. They lost their first at age 27 and didn’t get pregnant again until Maggie was in her FORTIES! They were super scared then but came Eleanor safe and sound.
Eleanor was the best child but then she was raped and wasn’t able to come back to the girl her parents or friends used to know. She got into drugs and Manchester University and her parents never had a good night’s sleep. Throughout the novel; Frank, Maggie and Eleanor did not communicate with each other. Eleanor shut everyone out; Frank and Maggie didn’t want to do anything to make her upset–very interesting parenting.
